Patapon was one of my favorite PlayStation Portable titles. It was charming, unique, and surprisingly addictive. Pon-Pon-Pata-Pon. While I think it would look brilliant on a 4K display, a game like this would be better suited for the likes of the PlayStation Vita or the Nintendo Switch. I just wouldn’t feel right otherwise.

RIME is coming out! I remember being impressed with initial reveal trailer in 2013. It was a PlayStation 4 exclusive at the time, then it fell off the face of the Earth for a couple years before resurfacing as a non-Sony funded title. I still think it looks incredibly pretty but the initial excitement has long faded and now I’ll pick it up on the cheap.

Mario Kart 8 is my favorite Mario Kart game. I’ve tried the original on SNES, I’ve sat around old CRTs with Mario Kart 64 and I’ve dabbled with Mario Kart Wii but none of them grabbed me quite like Mario Kart 8 for Wii U. Needless to say, it was easy for me to trade-in my Wii U copy for the Switch version. Having a portable version of my favorite Mario Kart title seems like it’s a shoe-in. It may not have significant visual or technical improvements over Wii U version but all the little additions and refinements make it worthwhile for me. I’m genuinely curious how it will fare on the Joy Cons.

Persona 5 is nearly upon us and that’s a wonderful thing. I enjoyed Persona 3 and absolutely loved Persona 4. I bought a PS Vita just so my bro could play Persona 4: Golden — that’s how much I loved it and wanted him to enjoy it. How do you follow up Persona 4? How do you create a follow up to a game that spawned so many spin-offs and generated so many fans? I have no idea but I am intensely curious. I’m just about done with Yakuza 0 but instead of jumping from one epic Japanese game to another, I’m going to take a small break with Nier: Automata. Vinny is totally right: There’s never been a better time to be playing video games.

Horizon: Zero Dawn looks to be Guerrilla Games’ first universally acclaimed game. Their efforts with the Killzone franchise have been spotty at best. I liked Killzone 2 but I know plenty who hated the way the game controlled. I had Horizon pre-ordered but decided to hold back on it until it got cheaper. (Way too many games in March!) I might be waiting a while if this game ends up selling well which is fine when you consider I have in my backlog and on the way to me.

Steep was Ubisoft’s “one more thing” stinger at their E3 2016 press conference and I cannot imagine why. It looks nice and there are a number of shenanigans can be had with all those extreme winter sports but I feel Ubisoft stealth released it. I want to say I heard more about Vivendi Universal’s hostile takeover than Steep from Ubisoft themselves.

Ubisoft open world titles and I don’t tend to mix well these days; we had a falling out after Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Far Cry 2. Now I don’t even glance Ubisoft’s way any time they show off a new open world game and that includes Watch_Dogs and Watch_Dogs 2. I hear Watch_Dogs 2 is different from their previous works but at the same time, I’m not hearing the acclaim and excitement that surrounded titles like Far Cry 3 or 4. Maybe I’ll get around to it but then again, I don’t feel like I’m missing out.

In-between the Goliath sized shooters sits another revision of BlazBlue. I’ve yet to play a single BlazBlue title and Central Fiction isn’t going to change that but I respect Arc System Works for marching forward and doing their thing. They’re flashy and stylish looking games but I just don’t have it in me to learn all their systems — especially when I can’t even fully grasp the basics of Capcom’s fighters.
