I am ready to play some Resident Evil. I feel like I should pick up Resident Evil 7 because it’s cheap now but what I really want is to play more of Resident Evil 2. That one-shot demo was the perfect teaser. It looked great, fun to play, and there was a real urgency to the game courtesy of the time limit. I think it’s about time I submerse myself in a dreadful situation for which killing zombies is the answer.

I’ve always been aware of the existence of the Onimusha games but I never bothered to check them out. I had no idea they were essentially Resident Evil games featuring Japanese swordsmen. Neat! That doesn’t necessarily entice me to try the game but it’s good to finally know what the franchise is all about.

New Super Mario Bros. U did not grab me on the Wii U. I played a handful of levels but I grew tired of the New Super Mario Bros. aesthetic and just shelved the game for the time being. Six years later Nintendo is releasing an updated version for the Nintendo Switch and I’m considering revisiting the Wii U version. Maybe now I’ll learn to appreciate it?

Happy New Year! Let’s start 2019 with a little interactive story about young love. The fiancee and I enjoyed our journey through Florence. It was a familiar tale that was beautifully told and experienced through an interactive medium. We related with Florence but not Krish; we concluded boys were stupid.

Week of Dec 21 – Jan 3 (Boxing Day) Round-up

I don’t make many recommendations on this here site but Astrobot: Rescue Mission deserves your attention. If you are looking for one of the best games of 2018 and own a PlayStation 4, do yourself a favour and pick up the PlayStation VR Astrobot + Moss Bundle for $249.99 ($130 off). It’s a fantastic game.

So this was Boxing Day 2017

Boxing Day isn’t what it once was; you’re going to see a lot of repeats from a month earlier. It’s best to view next Wednesday an encore of Black Friday with a spritz or two of new deals.

2017’s Boxing Day went pretty much as expected. If you were patient, you were able to nab some of the best games of the year on some steep discounts.

The Annual Franchises

The long streak of finding the most recent Call of Duty title for 50% off ended in 2017 with Call of Duty: WW2 coming in at $50 across all retailers.

Assassin’s Creed returned in 2017 with Origins. The $39.99 price tag also returned giving the game a 50% discount within 2 month’s time.

Other Releases

Nier: Automata for $30? I’m sure this was a popular pick up last year. It wasn’t surprising to see Destiny 2 and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus receive 50% off discounts. The Destiny franchise have always been historically quick to discount and the same goes with Bethesda published titles.

What Will Boxing Day 2018 Look Like?

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII and/or Assassin Creed: Odyssey chime in with 50% off discounts
  2. A repeat Black Friday pricing for Electronic Arts and Bethesda’s lineup of games.

Katamari Damacy is an absolute treat for me. But like all treats, I can only take so much before I have to put it down and take a bit of a break. The launch of Katamari Damacy Reroll reminded me that I own a copy of Katamari Forever for the PlayStation 3. I recall starting that game but didn’t finish it. I don’t know when I’ll get back to that version of Katamari but the idea of having a quality portable Switch version of Katamari Damacy is awfully tempting.

I guess the streak continues with a copy Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I own every Smash Bros. game since Melee and I can honestly tell you that I’m not that big of a fan. I’ve put less than a 48 hours’ worth of time across all of them. I found the single player content poor in the previous installments which results in my interest with these games waning quickly. Apparently my fiancee is a fan of the series so maybe we’ll make our way through the adventure mode.

There’s a Just Cause 4? This seemingly just snuck up on me. I was aware of its existence but its arrival seems muted with its lack of fanfare from anyone. I heard the last game was a disappointment for fans. I wouldn’t know because these games always seemed a bit too one note for me.

I was hesitant to pick up Pokemon Let’s Go. I didn’t finish Pokemon Sun and the idea of playing the remake with Pokemon Go mechanics seemed questionable. However, I decided to pick it up anyways and it looks like it was a solid choice. I hear good things.
