This week’s image is from Wolfenstein: The New Order which will receive a standalone prequel for about $20 in May. I have a copy of this sitting on my PlayStation 4 and will finally give it a go after hearing nothing but praise for it.

Save 30-50% off on everything* @ Target

If you haven’t heard, you can save 30-50% off just about everything in Target. Not much is left so don’t get your hopes up. I haven’t bothered stepping foot in a Target since the closure announcement. In fact, I don’t personally know anyone who did.

Did you go? Was it worth your while? Feel free to share.

This week’s image is from Limbo which gets a re-release on PlayStation 4 earlier this week. It’s one of my favorite XBLA releases and certainly a classic of the the last generation in my books. I highly recommend it if you haven’t played it before.

Please Welcome 2015’s Newest MSRP: $74.99

If you haven’t heard, a large number of upcoming releases are now listed at $74.99 across all major retailers including Amazon.ca, BestBuy, EB Games and FutureShop.

It was just last year that we moved from $59.99 to $69.99 and I’m still not used to seeing that $69.99 price tag on games.

How will this affect your purchasing decisions? For me, it means I’ll be waiting a little longer for games to hit my price point. The annual E3 promotions by retailers like Amazon.ca, BestBuy and Futureshop will help ease the pain on “must have on day one” titles but the usual 33% discount off a $74.99 MSRP results in a $50.24 price tag.

That was a $10 discount two years ago.

And if you thought last year’s Black Friday and Boxing Day promotions were dire, I suggest you brace yourself for the worst.

You Bought stuff? Claim Your $20

Long story short: if you bought any electronics between 1999 and 2002, you can claim $20 from this $80 million class action suit that nailed DRAM manufacturers for price fixing. No proof of purchase required for the $20 but if you have proof of purchase from that time period, you may be entitled to more.

Visit https://www.themoneyismine.ca/ for online claim forms.

It takes less than 3 minutes to file your claim.

This week’s image is from Snow. It’s a free-to-play, open world, winter sports game powered by CryEngine 3. It’s an unorthodox combination ideas that does its namesake justice.

Slighty Deeper Discounts at Target

Target is offering 20 – 40% off items with video games and consoles receiving a 20% discount. I haven’t gone to check out what’s available but I cannot imagine it being very much.

Feel free to share what you’ve managed to pick up from your local Target. I’m curious.

This week’s image is from The Order: 1886 which debuts on February 20, 2015. It’s a fine looking game and I have a copy on the way. I just hope it’s something special and not just run of the mill.

Minor Updates to the Site

Some minor updates to the Deals section’s deals filtering were made. You should be able use the menus like every other drop down menu on the internet now. This means you can click off the menus and they will close. Hopefully, it works as advertised. If not? Try clearing your browser cache.

That’s it from us for this week.

Stay safe and stay warm.

Target’s First Week of Liquidation

For those who don’t know, Target began their liquidation sale this week. Video games are a measly 10% off. It’s better than nothing but those who were hoping for deeper discounts will have to cross their fingers and hope the discounts get bigger as stores near their closing dates.

Then again, when you have lineups like this for an “up to 30% off” sale, what incentive does Target have to cut deeper?

Enjoy your week, everyone!

This week’s image is from Transistor. ‘Twas one of my favorites from 2014 and it’ll be free in February for PlayStation Plus members. Beautiful game.

Grid or List?

You can now switch between the traditional grid view to a list view. Both have their merits. Obviously you can see more items at once in grid view but list view is friendlier for long text.

Hope you enjoy it!

This week’s image is from the Resident Evil HD Remaster. I’ll pick this up once it hits the right price point. Sounds like the PC version is the way to go for this one.

1 CAD = 0.808156 USD

Will we begin to see $79.99 games? Are you worried?

It won’t affect me too much; I rarely pay over $40 for games. All this means for me is that I’ll be waiting a tad longer for games to come down in price.

This week’s image is from Valiant Hearts: The Great War. I haven’t had the chance to check it out but I have every intention to pick this up some time this year.

Goodbye Target & Sony Store

If you haven’t heard, news broke yesterday that both Target and Sony Store will be exiting the Canadian retail market.

Some cities just got their Target stores and now it’s gone. I’ve only visited them once for the currency card sale last year. I also applied for a Target Red card and have yet to use it. I was really hoping Target was going to show Walmart how to run an online and retail presence at the same time. But alas, they ended up being a cleaner Zellers.

Please be advised that Walmart’s deals aren’t always available online. Fortunately you can check your local store’s stock from the product page.

Week of Jan. 2 – 8 Round-up

Hello and welcome to our new weekly round-ups! These round-ups will coincide with the weekly flyer cycle.

This week’s deals are remnants of Boxing Week and thus unspectacular. Hopefully there are better deals next week but I’m not holding my breath!

If you have any comments, please leave them below.

Notice Some Changes?

If you haven’t been here since Boxing Day, you’ll notice this site filled out a bit. During the course of the fit up, the decision was made to stop forcing links to open in new windows/tabs.

There were two reasons for this:

  1. It was rude of us to assume that people wanted this and it’s apparently a web design no-no. We didn’t have a good reason not to abide by conventions.
  2. The website was misbehaving on mobile and in order to maintain a consistent user experience, we had to stop links from opening in new tabs.

That’s it. Nothing too fancy. Hope everyone enjoys the site!

About the Banner

This week’s banner is from Dragon Age: Inquisition. None of us here at GameDealsCanada played it yet but we hear it’s quite good.
