Week of Mar 1 – 7 Round-up

I haven’t played a Far Cry game since Far Cry 4. That was a pretty entertaining Far Cry game but after wringing every PlayStation Trophy from it, I felt I had my fill until the next generation of consoles. I’m sure Far Cry: New Dawn is fine but I’m not looking for an incremental update to the formula.

Week of Feb 22 – 28 Round-up

If I wasn’t too thrilled about Destiny 2, why would I plop down money for a less compelling version of it? That’s my rationale for Anthem. As a fan of exosuits and mechs, it looks rad. However, all the impressions and footage I’ve seen concerning the core gameplay loop is very unappealing. So instead, I’ll just relive the Bioware glory days by watching GiantBomb’s Mass Alex series. It’s my favorite Mass Effect playthrough on the internet.

Week of Feb 15 – 21 Round-up

I played and somewhat enjoyed Metro 2033. I bought the remaster of it and Metro: Last Light but didn’t get a chance to crack it open yet. Now there’s Metro Exodus and I could not be further from interested. It looks very good and I’m sure the ray tracing technology would look phenomenal but I’m just not in the mood for a shooter like that at the moment. Here’s to hoping NVIDIA RTX technology becomes ubiquitous and cheaper by the time I get around to playing it

Week of Feb 8 – 14 Round-up

I think I found it. I know it’s early to call it but I think I found at battle royale game that clicks with me and its name is Apex Legends. I watched Giant Bomb and others play PUBG. I’ve seen enough of Fortnite to know it’s not my jam. And I tried enough of Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII’s Blackout mode to realize that it has promise but it’s just not what I’m looking for. Apex Legends’ class based approach to Battle Royale is winning me over. I actually want to play it day after day unlike with Blackout where my enthusiasm for it just fizzled out. We’ll see how long this last though.

Week of Feb 1 – 7 Round-up

I was a Kingdom Hearts fan. I played the first two games along with Birth By Sleep for the PlayStation Portable and 358/2 on the Nintendo DS. I was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts III but then I just lost interest in trying to recap what happened. I also lost track of the Disney-Pixar properties that have debuted since and it all simply didn’t resonate with me any more. I’m glad Kingdom Hearts III finally made it out though.

Week of Jan 25 – 31 Round-up

I am ready to play some Resident Evil. I feel like I should pick up Resident Evil 7 because it’s cheap now but what I really want is to play more of Resident Evil 2. That one-shot demo was the perfect teaser. It looked great, fun to play, and there was a real urgency to the game courtesy of the time limit. I think it’s about time I submerse myself in a dreadful situation for which killing zombies is the answer.

Week of Jan 18 – 24 Round-up

I’ve always been aware of the existence of the Onimusha games but I never bothered to check them out. I had no idea they were essentially Resident Evil games featuring Japanese swordsmen. Neat! That doesn’t necessarily entice me to try the game but it’s good to finally know what the franchise is all about.

Week of Jan 11 – 17 Round-up

New Super Mario Bros. U did not grab me on the Wii U. I played a handful of levels but I grew tired of the New Super Mario Bros. aesthetic and just shelved the game for the time being. Six years later Nintendo is releasing an updated version for the Nintendo Switch and I’m considering revisiting the Wii U version. Maybe now I’ll learn to appreciate it?

Week of Jan 4 – 10 Round-up

Happy New Year! Let’s start 2019 with a little interactive story about young love. The fiancee and I enjoyed our journey through Florence. It was a familiar tale that was beautifully told and experienced through an interactive medium. We related with Florence but not Krish; we concluded boys were stupid.
