Week of Jun 19 – 25 Round-up

This week’s banner is from Batman: Arkham Knight which I forgot debuts next week. I’m still wandering through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt so I have no idea when I’ll get to Arkham. Hopefully those of you who pre-ordered titles through this year’s E3 promotions don’t over book yourselves when all these titles eventually come out.

E3 2015 Is Over

E3 2015 is over and I suspect many of you have invested too much money on future games. Hopefully those games don’t end up like The Last Guardian and you’re holding onto a pre-order for nearly half a decade and then the game moves onto a different platform and you’re wondering to yourself if BestBuy/FutureShop will change the pre-order for you or will you have to pay the new 2020 MSRP of $129.99.

I’m speaking from experience here.

So how many titles did people end up pre-ordering? 18 titles here with the likelihood that many will be cancelled as more info comes out but like people say: it’s easier to pre-order and cancel later than it is to get that discount for a new game.

E3 2015 is just around the corner which means new announcements and E3 promotions. On the games front, I’m hoping to see more titles for 2015. For the deals front, let’s hope Amazon.ca launches their own promotion and let’s hope that it edges out BestBuy’s offer.

It’s Over 5000

The GameDealsCanada Twitter just broke the 5000 follower mark. Thanks, everybody!

Summer Sales Begin for PC

GamersGate, GOG and Amazon.com have already started their summer sales but everyone was waiting for the grand daddy of them all, Steam’s which started yesterday.

Be sure to check daily but also be mindful and don’t pull the trigger on sales that aren’t part of the daily flash sales. They might just end up being a flash sale later on. If you mess up, don’t forget you can now get refunds on Steam.

This week’s banner is a screenshot from Firaxis’ upcoming strategy game, XCOM 2. I really enjoyed their first XCOM title and thus will likely pre-order their follow up during the E3 promo week. If it ends up being a PC only release, I hope they include the controller support from XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It worked surprisingly well.

BestBuy Promises an “Epic E3 Offer”

E3 2015 is nearly upon us and it looks like BestBuy will offer some kind of promo. I’m sure we’re all hoping it will be more than the usual 33% off but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I also expect Amazon.ca to hold an E3 promotion of their own. Let’s hope they fumble the discounts early on and offer deeper discounts than they intend.

Week of May 29 – Jun 4 Round-up

This week’s banner features art from DoubleFine’s second Kickstarter game, Massive Chalice. I backed this and I completely forgot that it was coming out on June 1. In my defence, I was distracted by a little game called The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. That’s a pretty good game. I just wish the PlayStation 4 version was a rock solid 30FPS throughout.

Reminder: Indigo’s 20% off Promotion

You can get 20% off your order when you use VISA checkout over at Indigo.ca. This promotion ends on June 1 at 3:00AM but don’t wait until the last minute.

If you want to buy a console, this promo is tough to beat. If you want to buy Splatoon, this is the cheapest option outside of pre-ordering during E3 promotions.

Splatoon launches late next week. I’ve heard good things coming out of those Global Testfires. I would have tried it myself but the restrictive 1-hour test sessions didn’t work out for me. I’m curious how well it will do for Nintendo. If I’m not mistaken, this is their first new IP for the Nintendo Wii U and they seem very keen on it.

Deals Ahoy

There were a lot of deals last week and many of them continue this week. Some were expected like Assassin’s Creed: Unity for $29.99 but I didn’t expect the likes of Bloodborne to go on sale for $39.99 so soon.

Then there’s the VISA Checkout promotion over at Indigo which is almost too good to pass up if you’re in the market for any console at the moment.

It almost makes up for the fact that new releases are $79.99. Almost.

The Witcher 3 promises to be the witchiest Witcher game to ever grace the gaming landscape. I enjoyed the previous two games despite their flaws. Humans hate elves, elves have beef with dwarves and everyone hates the Witcher and his philandering ways. I have a PlayStation 4 copy on the way and cleared my schedule. I’m ready.

Enjoy Your Long Weekend

This long weekend snuck up on me. It’s been a busy couple of weeks around here but i’m looking forward to the respite. I wouldn’t be surprised if BestBuy throw up one of their long weekend online-only sales. It might be your best bet to get a copy of The Witcher 3 at a discount for a while.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted if/when a sale goes up.

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster is making its way to the PlayStation 4. I could have picked a sappy picture for this week’s banner but I thought it would be appropriate to remind everyone how creepy the cutscene Tidus looked. I didn’t pick up the HD remaster on the PlayStation 3 and Vita and I don’t think I’ll pick up the latest revision either. Or at least not any time soon. I played it on the PlayStation 2, enjoyed it for what it was but I have no desire to revisit it whatsoever.

The standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is coming out next week. And I just loved this screenshot for the Nazi fleeing from bats and the other’s disdain for that poor rat. I loved Wolfenstein: The New Order so I’ll definitely pick up The Old Blood. It’s just a matter of when.

$79.99 Games Are Definitely a Reality

Just in case you didn’t believe new releases were going to $79.99 back in March, Electronic Arts and Activision have made it loud and clear that new titles will be $79.99. Both Star Wars: Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops III is $79.99 across retail and digital stores.

It’s too bad we no longer get Canadian NPD numbers because I would really like to know how these prices will affect sales figures of these high profile titles.

6 Year Anniversary Giveaway

I nearly forgot about this. Today is the sixth anniversary of GameDealsCanada! To celebrate, here’s a $50 Amazon.ca Gift Card giveaway.

All you have to do is leave a comment below and a random winner will be unveiled on next week’s news post. Good luck!

This week’s image is from Broken Age. Act 2 is set to debut on April 28 on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. It was the first Kickstarter projects that I backed and I’ve been happy with what they’ve delivered thus far. The first act was pleasant and left me wanting more which cannot be said for that other Kickstarter project that I backed. Republique was not my thing whatsoever.

This week’s image is from Grand Theft Auto V which debuted this past Tuesday on PC. I hear it’s a pretty good port. I played on the PlayStation 4 and enjoyed it there so I can only imagine the PC version would be extra wonderful at 60 FPS.
