Hideo Kojima’s last Metal Gear Solid game is just a few days away. I love this series for its unmatched ability to walk the tight rope between wackiness and serious tone. What other series can pull off a crotch grab between two soldiers with such a straight face? I look forward to unraveling the mysteries behind the giant flaming space whale and why Quiet felt it was appropriate to wear so little on the battlefield. I just hope I can get used to Keifer as Snake. That’s still weird to me.

Once Gears of War: Ultimate Edition hits $19.99, I’m going to grab myself a copy. Gears of War ushered in the the last generation of consoles for me. It was that iconic Mad World trailer that caught my attention and convinced me that this was a game that I had to get an Xbox 360 for. 2006 was so long ago…

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power debuts next week on Steam. I enjoyed the first Trine but didn’t take to Trine 2 like I thought I would. I like the idea of Trine more than the actual game itself; it’s just not as fun to play. Everything feels too floaty and imprecise for a platformer. It is undeniably pretty though.

There were many games shown off during Gamescom 2015 through gameplay demonstrations and trailers. One of them was DICE’s Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. It’s quite the looker and one that I’ve pre-ordered. The original Mirror’s Edge was a one of a kind game that no one successfully replicated since. I just hope they will tell us why no one secures the ventilation ducts in these fancy buildings. Not even a HEPA filter?

Galak-Z: The Dimensional is finally coming out next week and I think it’s one of those day one games that I’m gonna have to get. The 20% off for PlayStation Plus members helps. Judging by the early footage like this GiantBomb Quick Look, it’s shaping up to be that summer game that I need in my life right now.

Do you use Google+?

Is Google+ still a thing? The news of Google decoupling Google+ and YouTube got me thinking about Google’s social media platform. I don’t know anyone who uses it and it doesn’t appear to be popular in Canada. Checking on the number of “followers” on the GameDealsCanada Google+ page

Now I’m considering shutting it down. I even threw out the idea of shutting down the feed on Google+ and this was the sole response:

“Unfortunately no, I follow you on Facebook too but I discovered you here first…”

So yeah, I think that’s the end of GameDealsCanada’s run on Google+. For me, it’ll be one less thing to worry about from an administration standpoint.

Street Fighter V doesn’t launch until some time in 2016 but those who pre-ordered can participate in the online beta running until July 28th at 9PM ET (6PM PT). If you need details, I highly recommend you check out this NeoGAF thread. I’m looking forward to it even though I’ll likely get my ass handed to me. I haven’t played a Street Fighter game since Super Street Fighter IV so this should be fun.

Journey is making its way to the PlayStation 4 next week. The PlayStation 3 version was my 2012 game of the year because it made me feel things, man. Like anger and stuff. Seriously though, it’s a game that everyone should sit down and play from beginning to end. I would get the PlayStation 4 version but since I own the game on disc, I’m not eligible for the free version.

About that Amazon.ca Prime Day

So Amazon.ca’s Prime Day was essentially a bust for the majority of people. Nothing mind blowing popped up throughout the day for video games category or in any other category for that matter. And anytime something decent appeared, people were quick to buy it up.

I wouldn’t have paid $79.99 for Prime Day. Hell, I wouldn’t even redeem my free trial for it.

I wonder how Amazon will respond next year. I wonder if they’ll even hold another one. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

God of War III: Remastered debuts on the PlayStation 4 next week. God of War 3 was one of my favorite games on the PlayStation 3 let alone the franchise. There was something satisfying with the combat that hooked me even if the final set of battles weren’t as epic as they could have been from a spectacle perspective. It was one of the best looking games in 2010 and I’m sure it’ll hold up today thanks to the art style and remastering efforts.

Amazon.ca’s Prime Day

I’m never in a situation where I needed an item within 2 days, so I’ve been sitting on my Amazon.ca Prime free trial for years now. However, with the announcement of “Prime Day“, I decided to pull the trigger and activate my free trial. Amazon promises “more deals than Black Friday” but will they be better deals than Black Friday? They specifically mentioned video game deals on their promo page so at least I know there could be something of interest for this site.

I’m sure this little “Prime Day” will bring in a lot of Prime members for Amazon but I hope they put on a good show for us Canadians. Unless you care about the unlimited 2-day shipping and storage for photos, Canadian Prime offerings are awful compared to what our U.S counterparts get. I certainly won’t be paying $79.99 per year for a handful of subpar deals.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions didn’t generate the same amount of fervour as the last two Geometry Wars titles but I’m looking forward to the freebie courtesy of PlayStation Plus. I’ll play on the PlayStation 4 but apparently it’s also making its debut on PlayStation Vita which was a pleasant surprise to me.

There’s a drought on deals too?

July marks the beginning of slowing new releases and it looks like it also marks fewer deals as well. Not much this week…

Horizon: Zero Dawn was one of the most intriguing games shown on an E3 press conference this year. Guerrilla Games’ new game has robot dinosaurs and you can hunt them with a bow. Say no more. I’ve already pre-ordered it.

Summer Drought

The next few months will be a reprieve for those who bought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and underestimated the amount of stuff those crafty developers at CD Projekt RED crammed into their game. I know I’ll be taking the slow summer months playing catch up on The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Massive Chalice, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and whatever else my back log has in store for me.

So many games. So few hours.
