I don’t know what my top 10 games of 2016 looks like yet but I already know that Overwatch is my game of the year. Despite enjoying Valve’s Team Fortress 2, I bounced off it rather quickly and didn’t think those types of games had the staying power that I wanted. I was skeptical of Overwatch at first and it took a lot of good impressions to convince me to check it out. I ended up loving it, investing many hours into the game. It even broke a lot of new ground for me by being the first multiplayer shooter to entice me to use a mic with strangers and the first to employ a competitive mode that I wanted to excel in. Equally remarkable is the fact that I’m still playing it 6 months after release and continuing to learn nuances and tricks. On top of that, Blizzard have been running seasonal events, offered free maps and characters. It’s honestly one of the few games that keeps on giving.
