The arrival of Final Fantasy XV in my mailbox yesterday marked the end of a couple of eras. First, it marked the end of Square Enix’s beleagured Final Fantasy project. It started life as Final Fantasy Versus XIII in 2006 and was reincarnated as Final Fantasy XV in 2013. I didn’t pre-order it when it was known as Versus XIII but as soon as it was renamed into a mainline entry, I took advantage of FutureShop’s E3 promotion. The arrival of my PlayStation 4 copy of the game severed the final tie I had to the FutureShop brand. For three years, I was notified of the game’s pending arrival and now those notifications will cease. I think I’m going to miss those.
